Calling for volunteers for Thame COP26

A project to mobilise all of Thame to achieve net zero carbon sooner

21st Century Thame is supporting Thame COP26

We would like to invite everyone to help the Thame COP26 team make this event as big as it can be given the short timescale we now have.

Here is a call up by Lisa Meaney of Wild Pear CIC to ask anyone who is keen to help with reducing carbon emissions, increasing biodiversity and all related climate change actions.

Hi Everyone,

I am extremely pleased to tell you that funding has been granted by SODC to Wild Pear CIC to run a Thame COP 26 event.

This event will take place during late Oct – early Nov and run alongside the most important global climate conference ever, Glasgow COP 26

I would like to invite you all, and anyone you think might be interested from your networks, to a zoom next Thursday @ 7pm to tell you about the plans for this event, answer any questions, get your input and hopefully your support!

We will be limiting the amount any one volunteer is asked to do for this event so please do come and find out how a few hours of your time in the next month could help Thame help the environment.

DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT AIMS

Plans for the event are a work in progress at the moment but here is a rough description of the aims of Thame COP 26:

1) To ask as many Thame based organisations as possible ( schools, faith groups, businesses, vol groups etc) to identify what they can DO to reduce emissions and restore nature between now and March 22 – and commit to doing it.

2) To create an inspiring opportunity for young people locally to find out about the variety of ways professionals, activists and volunteers are addressing the climate and ecological crisis. This is being developed in partnership with Lord Williams’s School

3) To further raise the profile of all the brilliant work that is already going on in Thame to restore nature and reduce emissions.

4) To create and celebrate a sense of united effort in our town towards restoring nature and reducing emissions locally, as part of the global drive.

Please let me know if you can make it, and also please bring as many people as you can from your groups and networks who might be interested in supporting this event.

In the meantime feel free to email me on [email protected] if you would like more info or if you would like to discuss anything relating to this project please email your telephone number and I can call you back.   You can also contact Sue Martin-Downhill at [email protected].

Take care everyone, and I hope to see you next Thursday.
